How to Get Water Garden Supplies For Less

Posted by Pw | No Comments

If you want to save as much money as you can on those expensive water garden supplies for your latest do-it-yourself project you are in luck. Not only is it possible to reduce the price far below what you have seen offered in “total kits” or at the local super-store, but it’s also incredibly easy, too! Many of the supplies you would be buying at the store–such as a fountain or a pond bed–can actually be created by you out of primarily natural materials just lying around your back yard. What supplies and equipment you cannot create you can buy for less money that you would have expected just by educating yourself about what you need for your pond.

First things first, start off small. Don’t go getting a ton of water garden supplies for a full blown koi garden just yet. If you are on a budget start off by only building the basic garden and getting your plants growing, then upgrade to the koi. Figure out what the volume of your new water garden is going to be, this will determine which kind of water pump you will need to buy to keep the oxygen flowing. You probably will not need the super powerful pump with all kinds of crazy accessories, not unless you are building a huge pond.

Skip buying a plastic pond bed, which is a waste of time. You can create your own pond bed out of black tarp, sand, and gravel. Just lay the tarp into your newly excavated pond, and then cover it with gravel and then sand to simulate the bottom of the pond. You can also skip out on buying a pond screen and filter for now, just go with a skimmer to keep the water clean until you move your fish in. Do some research on the internet to find out what the bare bones supplies you will need are and stick to those at first, and then soon you will be upgrading to your full blown koi garden in no time flat.
